A trip to the Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry

Last Thursday, April 11, students from Checkpoint 1 and Checkpoint 2 went to the historic Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry. This trip was especially important to us as the object is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List - for the UNESCO Associated School, which we are, it was a nice duty.

In the first part, we got acquainted with the history of the entire mine, as well as the area around Tarnowskie Góry. Then we went down - for some students it was the first ride underground. There, we got to know many interesting mining rituals and customs and we learned why St. Barbara was such an important figure for miners. Finally, we had the opportunity to swim with boats through the underground channel - the biggest attraction of the mine.

The trip was an amazing opportunity for students to get to know the cultural heritage of the region. We hope to learn more about the traditions and elements of Upper Silesian culture in the future.
