2nd Physics Contest in English - Finals

On March 12th, 2018, the final stage of “2nd Physics Contest in English” took place in the assembly hall of Melchior Wańkowicz Private High School. The contest was created and organised by Ms Marta Skwarek.

The contest was widely acclaimed by students and teachers, as well as the representatives of the academic environment. Ten finalists were selected out of junior high school students who entered the competition on January 26th, 2018. During the final stage, they presented the chosen physical phenomenon applied in medicine in English.

Their work was graded by the Jury:

prof. Alicja Ratuszna who represents the Institute of Solid Body at the Institute of Physics, University of Silesia in Katowice

prof. dr hab. Jerzy Dajka – the Director of the Institute of Physics, University of Silesia in Katowice

prof. dr hab. Zbigniew Nawrat – the Director of The Institute of Heart Prosthetics, Zbigniew Religa Foundation for the Development of Cardiac Surgery in Zabrze

dr hab. Adam Wojtaszek – the Director of the Institute of English, Department of Linguistics, University of Silesia

Even though the knowledge and commitment of all Finalists was impressive, the Jury awarded the following students:

  1. Szymon Hankus – Primary School with Bilingual Classes No. 6 of Polish Nobel Prize Winners, Gliwice. Supervised by Aleksandra Szczepanik
  2. Paweł Chmielewski – Bilingual Junior High School, Chorzów. Supervised by Beata Ryl
  3. Przemysław Szewczak – Non-Public Catholic Primary School and Junior High School No. 1 of the Holy Family, Katowice. Supervised by Aleksandra Piechota

  2. Nikodem Stamirski – Primary School No. 28 of Karol Miarka, Katowice. Supervised by Barbara Iskra

It is really heart-warming when young people are so ambitious when it comes to their education. They are not afraid to go beyond the curriculum framework and they have the courage to merge their knowledge of physics with linguistic skills!

Congratulations to all open-minded participants! Thanks to all the teachers for their work and support.

We warmly encourage you to participate in the next edition!
