From October 23rd to 25th, our School hosted Tony Halik's Explorers Academy. It is an innovative education program for children and teenagers which consists of a cycle of meetings with famous voyagers, discoverers, scientists, alpinists, and sailors. Every meeting is joined with a slideshow and a story from different countries. During the first meeting, the children listened to stories about a few Polish travellers and discoverers, interestingly told by Mr Marek Tomalik, a journalist and a voyager. Among others, children learned how long Henryk Arctowski spent on a ship frozen to the ice of Antarctica, along with the crew, and where one of the highest railway routes built by Ernest Malinowski in Peru is situated. Students met Paweł Edmund Strzelecki who reached the highest peak of Australia while exploring, and named it Kościuszko's Mountain. Moreover, Mr Marek spoke about Ignacy Domeyko and Józef Konrad Korzeniowski. After listening to stories and watching a slideshow, students were divided into groups and asked to prepare their own, colourful map of the world, and place markers with Polish explorers met during Mr Marek Tomalik's story. Students will make use of the map very soon, during the next meetings.
