Summary of the contest "Physics as seen by an Artist..."
In the school year 2019/2020, the third edition of the interdisciplinary competition "Physics as seen by an Artist ..." took place.
It was a voivodship competition, although we also received works prepared by students from Spain and Ukraine. The competition was under the honorary patronage of: the Director of the Institute of Physics of the University of Silesia, the Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, the Director of the Zbigniew Religa Institute of Heart Prostheses FRK in Zabrze, and the Mayor of the City of Katowice.
The originator and organizer of the competition which combines physics and art is the physics teacher at Melchior Wańkowicz Private High School, Mrs. Marta Skwarek. Ms Marta Zemła watches over the artistic side.
From year to year, this competition is more and more popular among students and teachers. About 300 works were submitted in two age categories - primary school and secondary school. The topic of the work was fascinating water. Participants were to present water-related properties or physical phenomena in the artistic category of their choice - photography, drawing/painting or computer graphics.
Due to the current situation, neither the Final Gala nor the exhibition of works will take place this school year. The ceremony was scheduled for the end of March, when we celebrate World Earth Day established by UNSECO. The date was not chosen accidentally, because the theme of this year's edition concerned water.
The works were evaluated by representatives of the Institute of Physics of the University of Silesia in Katowice and physicists with artistic passion:
