Great opening of the new building of the Complex of Silesian International Schools
At January 29, 2008, the new building of the Complex of Silesian International Schools was opened.
Everything started in September 1991, when Mrs Jolanta Kałuża, MA, opened the nursery school “Domowe Przedszkole”. The group included only eight children. All the activities were personally carried out by the founder of the institution. Parents, who were very satisfied with the high standard of teaching, made demands to continue this educational initiative. The efforts resulted in the opening of the Private Primary School which came into existence on the 1st of September 1992. Initially, the school was situated at 6 Harcerska Street. At that time 27 students with the help of 5 teachers started their educational process. However, just one year later the number of students increased up to 60 (5 classes). On the 14th October, 1993, on the Education Day, the institution was given the name “Szkoła jak Dom”. Mrs Jolanta Kałuża, meeting the parents’ expectations, entered into negotiations with the city authorities. As a result of the mediations, in January 1994, the building at 18 Witosa Street was adopted. In the year 2001 the expansion of the new school was finally completed. The school was extended by the extra floor, sports hall, body-building gym, computer room and chemistry laboratory supplied with the modern equipment.
In one building, apart from “Szkoła jak Dom”, there also exist Private Lower-Secondary School “Amicus” and Melchior Wańkowicz Private Secondary School. Since 2007 the headmistress together with the teachers of the school have been involved in the project of international school formation. To be able to conduct the teaching programme on the level of the elementary school and the lower-secondary schools, the headmistress applied to Cambridge International Examinations Board. After in-depth analysis, special boards issued two certificates: Cambridge International Primary Programme and International General Certificate of Secondary Education. Later on, the Complex of Silesian Schools was awarded The International Baccalaureate Organization certificate, which enables both to educate foreigners and to conduct IB Diploma examinations approved by the most prestigious universities in the world. To make the education in this system easier, the headmistress applied to the city authorities for new premises. The results of these efforts will be crowned by Great Opening Day. The ceremony will be honoured with the presence of invited celebrities: the Mayor of Katowice – Piotr Uszok, the Vice-President of Katowice – Krystyna Siejna, the President of the Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSSE) – Piotr Wojaczek, the Vice-President of KSSE – Andrzej Zabiegliński, the Vice-President of KSSE – Ewa Stachura-Pordzik, the Vice-President of KSSE – Jerzy Łoik, Marshal’s Office representative in Katowice – Marek Fronczak, Silesian Education Office Inspector – Elżbieta Horbatowska, the Deputy Mayor of Bytom – Halina Bieda, the Deputy Mayor of Siemianowice Śląskie – Dariusz Bochenek, the Deputy Mayor of Mysłowice – Tadeusz Chowaniak, the representative of the Strategy and Promotion Department in Dąbrowa Górnicza – Ewa Fudali-Bondel and others.
